Sue English brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role on the United Way of Winneshiek County board. After a 20-year career with NorthLand Area Agency on Aging (now NEI4A), where she served in various roles, including Caregiver Specialist, Sue retired but remained deeply committed to community service. A Luther College graduate with a degree in Elementary Education and Speech/Theater, she previously taught 5th grade and coached high school speech in Wall Lake, Iowa, before returning to Northeast Iowa.

Sue’s connection to United Way began through her work in aging services, but after witnessing its profound impact on local organizations and individuals, she chose to continue serving on the board even in retirement. “For about 30 years, I’ve been involved with United Way because I strongly believe in its mission,” she shares.

What she values most is being part of an all-volunteer organization that enhances lives across Winneshiek County. “The diversity of the agencies United Way supports is incredible,” Sue says. “In a room of 30 people, I doubt there’s a single person who hasn’t been touched by a United Way agency. It’s hard to pick just one way United Way makes a difference.
